We have used it to remove dustcaps from hubs. It pulls them evenly without distorting them, unlike using a screwdriver. We have pictures of using one to remove a dustcap below the picture of the tool, along with directions.
Removing a hub dustcap with this tool:
One screwdriver passes through the hub and pushes against the puller, while another screwdriver wedges the ends of the puller firmly against the inside of the cap. We manage to keep this together while banging the end of the pushing screwdriver against a firm surface.
Of course re-setting the dustcaps is another story!
Note: The pictures below are of our own tool, which we have used for years. We like it so much that when we finally broke it, we brazed it back together.
