Sturmey-Archer was started in Nottingham, England, in 1902 by (surprise) Henry Sturmey and Frank Archer. The company is most famous for its 3-speed internally geared hubs, which it began producing in 1903. But Sturmey-Archer made other items, including brakes and motorcycle parts.
The company started as a subsidiary of Raleigh. In 2000 the company was sold to Sun Race of Taiwan and is now known as Sun Race Sturmey-Archer.
Sturmey-Archer 36-hole high-flange front hub. Used, $75.00
Part# HB-40
- This hub has a steel center and aluminum flanges.
- It's difficult to date. Until the late 1950s Sturmey-Archer front hubs were all steel. We're guessing that this hub was produced in the late 1950s or sometime in the 1960s.
- As you can see from the photographs, is is in lovely condition.
