Gary Fisher Bicycles
Gary Fisher is one of the pioneers of mountain biking. In 1974 he converted his 1930s Schwinn to a primitive mountain bike with drum brakes, motorcycle brake levers and triple crankset, one of the first-ever mountain bikes.
In 1979 he and Charles Kelly started MountainBikes, the first company to commercially produce mountain bikes with frames built by Tom Ritchey. They shut the company down in 1983. That same year Fisher went on to start Gary Fisher Mountain Bikes, which he sold to Anlen of Taiwan in 1991.
In 1992 Fisher developed the first full-suspension mountain bike. Soon thereafter Trek Bicycle Corporation acquired the Fisher brand.
