Kona Bicycles was founded in 1988 as a mountain bike company and was the first mountain bike maker to produce a complete line of mountain bikes with sloping top tubes.
From its initial success, Kona (headquartered in Washington State, despite its Hawaiian-sounding name) has gone on from strength to strength. The company now has a full line of mountain, road (including specialty commuter bikes) and cyclo-cross bikes.
