SRAM rear derailleurs are posted here.

The SRAM story is remarkable. The firm was started in 1987 in Chicago, and in 1988 introduced its home-run product, the "Grip Shift" twist gear shifters. At first only triathletes were interested. But the product's popularity grew and it started showing up on top mountain-bikers' machines and then road racers' bikes. By 1994, SRAM (the name comes from the initials of the first names of the company's founders) had sold ten million Grip Shift sets. It was being spec'd as original equipment on Specialized, Cannondale and Trek bikes.

In 1995 the firm began making derailleurs. That first effort, the ESP 900, was a failure, and the entire production was recalled. The replacement was the ESP 9.0, which was a success.

In 1997, the giant German industrial firm Mannesmann was looking to get out of what was to them, the tiny bicycle business. SRAM took the Sachs component company off their hands. That gave SRAM all the top-quality parts needed to make a complete gruppo. We stock Sachs derailleurs here.

And SRAM wasn't done. They bought RockShox, Avid, Zipp and Truvativ. This was a truly impressive accomplishment, done while most of the rest of the bicycle component production world was being crushed by Shimano.
